Pain with pus discharge from perianal region?

Perianal abscess and fistula in ano are common condition of perianal region which presents itself with pain and pus discharge from perianal region.


A. Perianal abscess

It is pus which forms in a cavity near the anal canal which can be due to an infection of internal glands (cryptoglandular complex) and then it spreads in the area of least resistance. It can spread and cross ischiorectal area and form an abscess called as ischiorectal abscess.

It presents with pain in the perianal region, swelling with redness and fever. Sometimes swelling ruptures and pain suddenly gets reduced in intensity.

Ideal treatment for Perianal abscess is to drain the pus and debridement along with proper antibiotic cover.


B. FISTULA IN ANO
