What are the different types of hernia?

The two main types of hernia are Congental hernia and Adult hernia.

Congental Hernia

This type of hernia occurs during neonatal period (son after birth)

Eg: umbilical hernia, diaphragmatic hernia, etc.

Among these, diaphragmatic hernia requires immediate surgery if it is causing breathing difficulties otherwise the surgery can be elective.

Umbilical hernias sometimes get better on their own.

Adult Hernia

A majority of hernias in adults are inguinal hernias which occur in the groin region.

Depending on the general condition of the patient and co morbidities, if there are no symptoms, the treatment can be prolonged for a bit longer, but if there are symptoms, the patient requires surgery.
