What is Plastic Surgery?
Plastic surgery is a special surgery which involves the restoration, reconstruction or alteration of the human body.
It is divided into two main categories, which are reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery.
Some examples of reconstructive surgery are craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery and the tretment of burns. Reconstructive surgery mainly aims to reconstruct a part of the body or improve its functioning, the main purpose of aesthetic or cosmetic surgery is to improve its appearance.
Lets get a little into the history of plastic surgery.
When there was no concept of surgery, Maharshi Sushruta introduced plastic surgery. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest physician and surgeon of those times. The instruments and techniques invented by him are still being used in modern medicine practice.
The Sushruta Samhita is one of the oldest and most important ancient medical literature and is considered as the founding text of Ayurveda.
